Background:

Dr. Susan Richardson has been conducting research at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in an effort to "clear up" the water issue. Working with a team of spectroscopists at the EPA in Athens, Georgia and a team of engineers and microbiologists at the EPA in Cincinnati, Dr. Richardson has devoted the last four years to the identification of drinking water disinfection by-products from alternative disinfectants.Dr. Richardson received her doctorate in Chemistry from Emory University in 1989 and has been employed with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the past six years. At the EPA's National Exposure Research Laboratory in Athens, she has conducted a variety of research projects using mass spectrometry to help identify unknown pollutants in the environment.
