Background:

Dr. Wei is a Senior Staff Scientist at Diversa. Her work is currently focused on the development of 3D LC MS/MS proteomics technology, setting up 3D featured proteomics platform, and establishing novel differential protein profiling methods. She is the lead scientist in experimental planning, execution and data analysis for proteomics-based research at Diversa. Also, she supports several proteomics grants.

Abstract:

Dr. Wei's presentation pertains to the development of a proteomics technology platform featuring 3D LC coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) that identified over 2000 unique proteins from a single sample injection. The 3D LC system provided high peak capacity and resolving power, minimal loss, and accessibility to membrane proteins. The 3D separation is a flexible process and easily fully automated. Using this technology, a comprehensive view of the yeast proteome has been generated. Yeast proteins were extracted into soluble, urea-solubilized, and SDS-solubilized samples. Together, the three samples yielded the collective identification of 3019 unique yeast proteins from the 6300-gene Saccharomyces Genome Database. Overall, the novel 3D LC-MS/MS proteomics platform provided a powerful technology for the field of global proteome discovery.
