Background:

Dr. McIver is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine, and cofounder of IonSpec Corporation. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Kansas and obtained a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Stanford University in 1971. He then joined the UCI Chemistry Department as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to full Professor in 1977. Dr. McIver has won several awards for outstanding teaching in his specialty areas of analytical chemistry, thermodynamics, and kinetics. His research interests include fundamental studies of ion-molecule reactions in the gas phase, kinetics of surface catalyzed reactions, and analytical instrumentation. In 1983 Dr. McIver cofounded IonSpec Corporation in Irvine to develop instrumentation for Fourier transform mass spectrometry. Most recently, he has focused on developing a high performance MALDI method that uses the FTMS image current detection method for the analysis of biomolecules.
